Hee, I've got my email set up now to deliver all lj comment notifications to a folder called "Unreplied LJ comments" so hopefully I won't lose them so much in my 300 someodd message strong inbox. I had tried to do that earlier, more than a year ago, but for some reason it didn't work. Of course, that doesn't mean that I'll find time to answer them, but still. Yay.

Must go to bed. I've got more things to talk about, but I've decided that as I've got to get up early enough tomorrow to take a shower (as I managed to completely forget tonight and my hair is scummy) and take all the trash to the curb for pickup (of which there is a lot because of continued room cleaning), I should probably endeavor to get more than three hours of sleep. Which will not happen unless I fall asleep within the next 20 minutes. Damn.

Oh. And since I actually played volleyball for two games in one match on Sunday (which was funfunfun)? My knees are purple. Badly so. Makes me laugh, because it's all *paleywhitepaleywhite-purplishbrownishyuck-paleywhitepaleywhite* Dumb annoying habit of diving for the ball even when there's no chance of reaching it in time. I realize that there's no chance, and yet I dive. Probably because I want to make it look like I tried to get it so people don't think I'm lazy. Even though there's no chance that anyone would have been able to get it in my position. This needing to please people thing, I dunno.

I had to make a tag for self-analysis. Because I have tags for everything else and I do that so often that it practically deserves its own LJ. Makes me smile, because I realize that most people probably don't spend as much time analyzing the motives behind every unconscious decision/action/thought/dream as I do. Dunno what that says about me.

This makes me smile because I used to that back when I was on my *shudders* high school volleyball team. I didn't really want to be on the team, but the shrink-type person at school had said that I needed to take part in more school activities and volleyball seemed like a good idea. Seeing as pretty much everyone on the team strongly disliked me (granted, that was probably because I was such a bitch), I always felt like I had to overcompensate and dive insanely.

I don't know what the proper English term is; we called them "gym burns" but I'm from a French/German background so I have no idea whether there's a better word for that sort of rash/skin scraped off thing you get on your stomach when you slide on a gymnasium floor and your shirt wasn't tucked in. Do you get these too? I know that other than the dark purple knees that was my main volleyball injury.

Ooh. Ouch. I avoid the school shrink types at all cost, or I'd probably have the same thing going on. I don't think ours is actually a shrink or anything, though. Which is unfortunate, because they're even less qualified to muddle in your life.

Seeing as pretty much everyone on the team strongly disliked me (granted, that was probably because I was such a bitch), I always felt like I had to overcompensate and dive insanely.

That's probably the reason I started doing it too. I was the quiet kid on the team that didn't go to their school (they were mostly the Catholic school kids, as I was playing for the parish up the road from my house) and I knew they talked about the few public school kids behind our backs, and yet I had this obsessive need for people to not think badly of me. So, diving. But it's almost worse now because I never know when they're going to ask me to play, and it's an adult league so they're all 14-44ish years older than me, so I'm diving to make them think I'll try so they'll ask me to play again, but as I didn't know I was going to be playing, I don't have kneepads.

that sort of rash/skin scraped off thing you get on your stomach when you slide on a gymnasium floor and your shirt wasn't tucked in

Oh, I know those well. Don't think there's an actual term for it being from a gym floor, or if there is, I'm not privy to it, but it's like a cross between rug burns and road rash, no? Your word sounds as good as any.

First I must say that I LOVE your icon here. That's Xena/Gabby right? I used to be like SO FREAKING obsessed with them. They are an insanely good (and easy - i.e. SUBTEXT) ship. hehe

Also, thanks for reminding me to fix that link. I didn't realize what it was doing. And for some reason my spellcheck thing basically just bitchsmacks me every time I try to use it so I don't know. Because I can't to drafts on Word or anything on paper because the internet is the only thing I can hide from the prying eyes of my mother and well, anyone. Anonymity (sp- hah) is good.

Also as per your comment about Cam/JMO naked in bed except for a thong - yeah... that's pretty much what inspired me to write that - not being able to get the damn visual out of my damn head. That's also what causes a lot of my spelling mistakes *lol* - Gues I'M pervy too. hehe

PS - I make up new tags for everything so don't fel bad. I've an insanely long list of useless tags. heehee

Sorry this is so damn long

That's Xena/Gabby right?

Oh, yeah. I loved those two. That was my favorite show all through elementary school. Coming back now, I love just the same (although I see now that some of the episodes are more campy/cheesy/odd than anything). They're canon, essentially, I figure.

Also, thanks for reminding me to fix that link. I didn't realize what it was doing.

No prob.!

Because I can't to drafts on Word or anything on paper because the internet is the only thing I can hide from the prying eyes of my mother and well, anyone.

I tend to, if drafting/writing on the internet, then open a Word window and then copy and paste my text into the Word window to use their spellcheck, make any necessary changes in the internet window, and then post. For my RPGs and such, it works pretty well.

that's pretty much what inspired me to write that - not being able to get the damn visual out of my damn head.

Well, you've successfully passed it on into my head!

*lol* - Gues I'M pervy too. hehe

Nothing wrong with a little of that from time to time!

I make up new tags for everything so don't feel bad. I've an insanely long list of useless tags.

I'm glad somebody else does. It seems like I've got six tags on every post.

Sorry this is so damn long

Oh, this is not long. Oh, boy, nowhere near! You don't know long until you've had to split up your comment response into three separate reply comments because it exceeds the character limit, LOL!

(sort of random)

I went to school crying when Gabby fell down the big feiry pit to kill her daughter and save Xena. *officially has "Loser" stamped on head*
I was in the FAN CLUB *rofl*

Thx for the Word tip. I may use it. I already have *plenty* of visuals (damn that beautiful woman)

Well at least I haven't had to use another comment box so I don't feel so long-winded. *lol*

Ahh, yes! It's interesting to look back at which episodes I actually remember (because I was always fighting with my parents because they wanted to watch ER at the same time Xena was on, plus I was still young enough towards the beginning seasons that they were like "Err, nope. Not watching this episode"). That's one of them. "Ides of March" was also one that always got me. I still have trouble not crying when they're all "I've always loved you. You were the best thing that ever happened to me. *dies*" And then the angel bit at the end? Tres sad. And "A Friend in Need" I refuse to watch. At all. Because I hated that episode. Not only is it sad because they kill Xena, but did they really have to do it in such a gruesome manner? That's actually one that I remember from when it first ran, but I assume that my parents didn't let me see the gory bits. Still. Tis disturbing. I used to refuse to believe that the events in the episode actually happened, but then I started taking the Virtual Series as canon (as one of the actual show authors wrote the two-parter that brought Xena back in the virtual series and several more episodes, I had no problem taking it as such) so I'll allow that it happened, but only provided that she came back soon after. /is a geek

Hee, fanclub. Unoficially, I totally was. I used to make up/write fanfiction for them way back when, before I knew that fanfiction was an actual thing. But I am the stingiest person with money ever, and I shelled out the $200 for the complete 6 seasons on DVD, which I think says a lot about how much I was obsessed with that show. The DVDs which my brother then ruined about 4 disks of and scratched all to hell several more. Grr. But still. It's not one of those shows that I watch and then don't pull out the DVDs for again for a year or more like some of the DVD sets that I've got, because especially with some of the deeper episodes like "Ides of March", you catch little things (namely more subtext, but also inside jokes and cool filmography bits and such) every time.

Well at least I haven't had to use another comment box so I don't feel so long-winded.

Hey, it's all good. I've done the three comment box thing multiple times (and do the two comment box thing every couple of days), so longwindedness isn't any kind of problem here.

*gasps* Ides of March was so sad *gets teary*
I could never afford any of the DVD things but a couple yrs ago my husband bought me the like set they have at wal-mart with like 6 discs - like supposed to be the best eps or something. Yeah those eps where Xena went crazy and danced with all the animal blood was disturbing. And I hated when they cut Gabby's beautiful hair... *growl*

The thing you said about the watching it alot and catching new stuff or subtext I totally agree with. I'm the same way with House. I always catch something and its awesome.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've seen those. I sort of wanted to buy one because it had quite a few of my favorites on there plus the extra stuff, but I had just ordered the full series when I first saw them in the stores. I'm planning to buy a similar set though, for Star Trek (yeah, I'm a sci-fi geek) when they finally come out with it. They've been putting out themed collections, and I'm sort of a whore for the mirror universe, so I've been waiting for that one to come out. They had us vote for the other episodes beyond all the mirror ones to put on there a while back, so I don't know what's taking them so long. *is impatient*

Ooh. Yeah. I kinda avoid those eps. Just a little creeptastic. Those were the ones when Gabrielle was dead, too, which is not fun.

Yup, me too! Actually, recently I was watching "Hunting" and I totally caught and actually got one of Stacy's lines for the first time. House was talking about how after sex she slept like a baby, and then was all "I can make sure you sleep well tonight," and Stacy's like "No, I'd rather take care of it myself, thanks." Made me laugh rather loudly when I heard it again because she so was talking about how she planned to go over to Cuddy's house to "take care of it". ;D

ZOMG I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU!

You have a Xena icon! *sprints off to view your profile* And you like Everworld? (Btw, did you ever read Animorphs?)

You...are amazing. That's so cool, I used to watch Xena all the time when I had good cable (for the Oxygen channel...and when it was on USA).

PS. Mind if I friend you? Because you liking/shipping Xena means you're my new best friend now. Um, in a non-creepy manner! LOL

I do; I do, but it's been a long time since I've read them; and yes, a bit, but not all of them because I liked Everworld better.

You...are amazing.

Hee, thanks!

I used to watch Xena all the time when I had good cable (for the Oxygen channel...and when it was on USA)

Yeah? I don't have cable at all, but I watched them when they aired and then was getting my dad to tape them at his school (as he's a teacher and his school has cable) at one point until I finally broke down and bought the DVDs.

Mind if I friend you?

Absolument not minding. Friend away. *Does so tambiƩn.*

I loved when the Everworld group went to Mt. Olympus...and I love the Norse gods too. (Xena first got me into classic mythology and stuff...hehe, helped a lot with allusions in all my English classes later on.)

I tried to tape all the Xena episodes, because I was poor and couldn't afford the DVDs...I loved the first few seasons best, with Gabrielle's long hair and Callisto and Xena and Joxer! Oooh, and Ares. Hee, I used to have a crush on Ares. I mean, uh...
I really really hated it when the whole Eve and Eli thing came up and everything started changing...so basically everything after the Ides of March...

Absolument not minding. Friend away.
Merci! << That's all I'm gonna try to write in French. I took three years and ended in 10th grade (the French teacher at my school was kinda crazy/intense), so all my conjugations are screwed up. I wanna pick it up in college again though!

OMG, exactly with me too. Especially because we did a bit of mythology in english class last year, and everybody was surprised that I knew everybody we covered. I was like "Yeah, most of them were on Xena. The ones that weren't were because I looked up the people on Xena and found out about them on the way."

I was poor and couldn't afford the DVDs

I shouldn't have afforded the DVDs, lol. It was the most expensive thing I've ever bought in my life. By probably a factor of 10. I'm uber cheap. I have no idea why I bought them, actually. It's weird that Xena DVDs got exempted from my normal "No! Will not pay more than $20 for anything ever!" thing.

I loved the first few seasons best, with Gabrielle's long hair and Callisto and Xena and Joxer!

Me too, before it got all major, long arching plotline and dark and monotheistic and such. When it was a bunch of friends (or, you know, more than that) traveling around. My favorite bit was when they retold myths and such. Like with Odysseus, when Xena had to help him restring his bow under the table? That sort of thing. Because it was mythology with a girl power twist, and they did it in such a way that made you want to go look up more about it.

Hee, I used to have a crush on Ares.

Mmm. I know exactly what you mean. He was kinda a sexpot.

I wanna pick it up in college again though!

That's cool. I almost dropped Spanish in 10th grade because my teacher that year sucked, but I didn't, which was fortunate because this year my teacher is pretty cool. I pick up the French on occasion just because my best mate takes it at school and we randomly jump into our respective languages without noticing sometimes. It works because her French makes it so that using cognates between both that and Spanish and English and Spanish, she can figure out the gist what I'm saying often, and vice versa.

That was SO me! I'm always explaining mythological allusions to my friends, and I can never understand why they can't get it. But it's because they never had the chance to link it to something important to themselves...like, I'll remember the Xena ep along with the myth so it's easier to recall. But then I'll be like, "Psh, Ulysses SO owes Xena for that." Hehe. I'm LAME.

My favorite bit was when they retold myths and such.
I absolutely love those, because it's funny how the writer's work Xena and Gabs into the centerfold. Go GirlPower! And Xena/Gabrielle subtext. ;)
The only thing I liked about the later episodes was that Gabrielle seemed stronger and more independent, less of the innocent girly girl...it also changed the subtext relationship a bit. But it was weird how much her look changed...she was so pale and butch...

It works because her French makes it so that using cognates between both that and Spanish and English and Spanish, she can figure out the gist what I'm saying often
I get what you mean. Except, I'm bad a deciphering Spanish...which is why I have to ask you to translate everything you type. LOL *facepalm*

HA! That's so 'bloody' cool, you used "best mate"...are you British/Aussie?

Hee, exactly. I connect everything to TV shows. It really does help when you're as much of a geek as I.

The only thing I liked about the later episodes was that Gabrielle seemed stronger and more independent, less of the innocent girly girl...it also changed the subtext relationship a bit.

Yeah, early on sometimes it's a little too "Oh, look, there are some bad guys on the horizon. Stay back, Gabrielle, I must protect your virtue!" Though the stories were better earlier, I prefer their relationship when they're more equal, honestly.

That's so 'bloody' cool, you used "best mate"...are you British/Aussie?

Nah, just. . . odd. I've got no idea why I started using either, but 'bloody' has been around for a while and 'mate' is a rather new (only this year, really) addition to my vocab. I've a penchant for odd words.

Yeah, it's nicer when Gabs could fend for herself and not be a liability and all. A lot of the earlier eps had her being the hostage or something similar.

Are you going to be an etymologist when you "grow up"?

Yeah. That got so boring. It was all "Oh, look, Gabrielle's been kidnapped. Again."

Are you going to be an etymologist when you "grow up"?

Nah, lol, though I did dabble with minoring in linguistics at one point. I've wanted to be a doctor pretty much since I was born, and decided on emergency medicine probably 8 years ago. Before that, I declared my intentions to be a cardio-thoracic/neurosurgeon, but I then realized that I'd get bored with it being the same kinds of things day after day. I need the puzzle, the unknown unconscious patient that comes in through the doors and you've got no idea what's wrong but you've got to fix it in the next 30 minutes or he'll die kind of thing, you know?
