Normally, I'd giggle my ass off with all of Russell T Davies' comments about Wincest and loving Supernatural in various interviews and at Comic Con. But watching the Youtube vids of his panels, I just want to punch the guy. I have tried to be over Torchwood CoE, just accept it as plot-hole-filled (read a review on Amazon.com today that pointed out a bunch that I'd even missed and cited precedent for why they were holes--there are trillions, I say), bizarrely characterized, franchise decmating writing. But seriously? RTD needs to get his head out of his ass and treat the fans with a little respect. Yeah, you restarted Doctor Who and are now worth bazllions of dollars pounds. Yeah, you can do pretty much whatever you want to your shows. But take a lesson from Joss Whedon. Without us, sir, you are nothing. Belittle the voices that express dissent all you like, but a month ago, I would have watched whatever show you did next just because I like Who and Torchwood so much. Now? Hardly. And not because of my beef with the writing quality. Because you don't value your watchers, and not only that, seem to take joy in smacking them down whenever possible. This is just asshattery, sir. Stop with your little "Oh, I am so the ghey, Winchesters, do me!" when in the next breath you're talking about how "paltry" the number of bags of coffee sent to BBC Wales was. At least John Barrowman had the decency to point out how awesome it was that we raised money for the Children in Need charity in Ianto's name.

Gah. I don't want to be one of those obnoxious, can't let it go fans. I'll say again, my problems are not with Ianto's death but rather the fact that they decided he had to go because "I always sort of knew that Jack would kill his grandchild in the last episode … and in order to do that you got to have a Captain Jack who is badly, badly damaged" (RTD, obv.). As OTP as I'd love them to be, let's look at it plain--he's had and lost how many lovers? Sure, they all screw you up, but this is the man of "There's been too much death today" and freezing rather than killing his homicidal brother, etc., etc. To pull such a deus ex machina out of your ass but to be so torn up not be able to reach a little to the left of the laser (which for some odd reason, it took me 2 tries to spell) pistol and pull out one that didn't involve killing your own descendants is unbelievable. And yet, the man seems to keep egging me on.

This is the one that gets me.

Question: One of my readers wondered if you were under pressure to de-gay Torchwood and that's why you killed him off.
DAVIES: I think you can forget about people picking up gay rights as an issue. It's rather like children picking up nursery blocks and waving them in the air but having no idea what it entails. We’re talking about issues in my entire life here, not just one small television program. If they did research they’d go and look at the history of gay and lesbian characters that I have put on screen. They should simply grow up, do some research, and stop riding on a bandwagon that they actually don’t know anything about.

No, sorry. You think you're the only person that cares about gay rights in this world? You think every Janto fan is some heterosexual female with no concept of homosexuality besides John and Gareth being hot when they kiss? Fuck you. Yeah, you're some gay bigshot because you made Queer as Folk. Talk to me when you're the reincarnated Harvey fucking Milk, then maybe you can tell us what to do. And next time, try and make your answer make some sense. Beyond insultinsultinsult, all I got was gibberish.
