Final, official, HP7 predictions of doom (subject to change)
I know some people don't like to see these, lest they be influenced, so though they're not at all based on spoilers. . . .
Things I believe (with much certainty) are going to happen:
First and foremost, Snape is good. Rereading the books has helped me to cement this one, and so I've decided to just trust that JKR wouldn't do something so crazy as to make him evil.
The fact that Wormtail owes Harry his life is going to come into play in a big way in this book. (It didn't in 5 or 6, did it? It's been a while since I've read those and I'm not to them yet on this reread.) Something that big is going to have to be commensurately important to the plot. And Dumbledore said it in his end-of-book philosophical meanderings/foreshadowing, so it can't just be dropped.
Dumbledore wanted Snape to kill him. I've been sure of this since I read the 6th book (though recently I'd been afraid that JKR would take it the other way), because Draco's assignment thing had to be killing Dumbledore (because Narcissa thought Voldemort wanted Draco to die trying, which means it had to be impossibly difficult, which means Dumbledore). And Snape must have told Dumbledore about his vow, as it pertains to his spy work with the Order and Dumbledore's head of that. So when the time came, Dumbledore would rather die himself than lose the incredible asset of Snape as a spy within the Death Eater ranks (possibly also because he was already dying due to the Horcrux potion, but I'm up in the air on that one as I just started considering it yesterday. Either way, moot point).
Snape is going to die in the 7th book. There's no, absolutely no way for anyone to trust Snape again after that, as I highly highly doubt Snape would have told anyone but Dumbledore about the vow (the whole "who might be a spy amongst our ranks" thing, the same as why no one was informed about switching the Potters' secret keeper). But he can't just die/leave with everyone still thinking he's a bad guy, so he's going to have to go down in some dramatic way fighting the Death Eaters. Which leads me to conclude that he's probably going to get killed by Voldemort himself, because it provides for the dramatic reveal, and because in order for everybody to conclusively know that he's good, he's going to have to do something drastic like attempt to kill Vdmt. himself, and/or because a high-ranking spy that's been passing information for ages would be killed by the leader.
Sirius is going to help the trio/the Order. Because he is. Because they made it obvious that the whole "Beyond the Veil" thing is =/= dead. And the mirror, etc, there was just too much of a setup for him to not. Do I think he's actually coming back, back? No. I'd love it, but I think he's going to help in more of an advice way.
More about the Inferi. Because I had expected some kind of creature like this to come into play since (I think I read something else with similar creatures in it) about 2003. And they're too interesting of creatures for JKR not to play with them in this book.
I'm up in the air on Dumbledore coming back/helping/whatever. My dad is up-and-down sure that he is, I'm not so positive. I'd like it, but idk.
And I have a sneaking suspicion that the Weasleys are going to lose somebody. This isn't based on anything, really, but the feeling that they've come through this too unscathed. Yeah, Ginny got captured in CoS and Arthur got bitten in OotP and Bill got bitten in HBP, but they've not lost anyone. For a family as involved in the Order as they are, it's such a complete improbability that they've come through this unscathed. I've no idea who I think it could plausibly be, but it'd be an interesting character bit to see Molly get taken down fighting.
Things I'd like to see (but don't have sufficient conclusive evidence of their occurring):
Minerva McGonagall kicking ass and taking names. And not dying (though I doubt she'd die, as they need somebody to run the school and the Order without Dumbledore). She's going to have to take over the school and probably the Order too, but when Dumbledore left in CoS, we didn't see much of her really taking charge. And I've loved her since the books began; she and Hermione were always the ones I identified with, so she's naturally my favorite.
Some kind of scene between Remus and Sirius (through the mirror or however they end up contacting him). Because there's so much potential for emotional scenes and character study in Remus, how he was the only one left, and then found out that he wasn't, and then he was again, etc.And because I think Remus/Sirius is made of lovely.
