Too bad you can't see your grandparents that much...I actually enjoy the time I spend with mine for whatever reason. On telling your boss: just let him know as politely as possible that you've decided that working there is not in your best interest, that you were glad to have worked for him and hope he wouldn't mind giving you a recommendation in the future. Even if those things are so far from true that it's ridiculous. If there are only two of you on staff...or even three-fourish, I would let him know that you're willing to stay until he gets the new girls/guys trained.
On another note: today would have been a great day for you to come up for SOAR--John McCain is here lol. I also think my (obviously gay) friend is helping him get settled in, so I'll get to hear about happiness, I hope.
