Watched the episode of SVU that's all nature vs nurture in regards to children of rape victims (though lol, that really doesn't narrow things down a whole lot, seeing as they tend to do those about once a season to whump on Olivia--3.08 "Inheritance") where Stabler asks Huang along to translate and George is all "You assume I speak Chinese?" and there's a pause before Elliot responds "I heard you order takeout". Such a suspicious pause, was all I kept thinking. Like the answer was really going to be "Oh, last night, you were pretty incoherent but I knew it wasn't based in English".

But later was the part that I really found funny. Something about B.D. Wong's delivery when he mentions how things at the house with his traditionalist Chinese parents wouldn't have been pleasant if his sister had dated a black man made it sound totally like the sister thing was a blatant coverup for the fact that Huang did bring a black man home once and it wasn't pretty. It's like the pronoun game, only substituting your opposite-sexed sibling in for anecdotes about your own romantic exploits.

And, erm, the defense lawyer? Who read the dictionary when she was little and had a PhD in what, biochem? I want her in fic. She seemed like a cool character.

Oh, and Julia Child? I knew she was cooler than she was letting on.

Re: that article that's making the rounds about the swimmer Michael Phelps' diet while training. And it being something like 12,000 calories a day. It includes a 1000 calorie energy drink (twice a day), supposedly. I began to wonder what that would be like.

Let's do some math. One gram of lipid is 9 calories. That means that 1000 calories would be about 111.11 grams of fat.

If 1 tablespoon of pure oil is 120 calories, that makes each tablespoon about 13.333 grams.

111.11 grams divided by 13.333 grams is about 8 and 1/3 tablespoons.

That's half a cup plus a teaspoon. (Sad that I can do that off the top of my head, innit?)

Can you imagine downing half a cup of oil twice a day? Sure, mixed in with other crap to disguise the taste, but fats deliver the most calories in the smallest package, so the bulk of the calories in this drink would logically stem from emulsified lipid. And who wants to drink a gallon of energy drink a day; so it's probably not cut with very much of said other crap for sheer minimization of guzzling time.

Summation? Blech.

Bidding on things I need for school on Ebay. There's this clicker-type response pad thing that's basically teaching for lazy people (both my parents lololol'd when I showed them the presentation for teachers on how to use it in your classroom, followed by a very serious "So, pretty obvious that they are working on training apes to replace us.") because you don't even have to call on the students or grade tests or pay attention at all to who's participating in class, etc. It's understandable, perhaps, for a very large lecture course, but they you'd think that the school could give you a lender as chances are you're never going to need it again.

Whatever.

Anyway, I bid on one on Ebay this afternoon. A few hours later, I get an email telling me I've won it. Whut? It had something like 5 days left! I check, and the sale price was $0.01. It's all legit Ebay emails, and the Ebay system thinks I've won this thing in legitimate rounds of bidding, but I'm naturally very skeptical. The seller had to have stopped the sale early. Why would they do that with only one bid at one cent? I checked to see if it was all in the shipping markup, but s/h is only about $4. Which is def. on the high side for the size of this thing, but not bad.

I IZ CONFUZED. Ebay's got me logged in as the winner and therefore supposed to be all with the handing over of dinero, but I don't really want to pay this guy until I find out what his game is. Going to email the seller and ask what's up. Because the cheapness is excellent, but it feels like a scam.
