Nov. 22nd, 2006 11:59 amCatch this. Guess who ruined my break? Dumb english teacher.
Since Friday, I'd gone through 5 choices of passages for this interpretation/explanation/presentation thing. Didn't get any of them. None.
So yesterday, I was just like "Fine, I give up. Pick one for me." and we found one, and she didn't bother to tell me that there were spots for later chapters in the book available and just led me towards the first chapter, so I'm stuck going on Tuesday. First. Which is atrociously unfair.
It's unfair for anybody going the first two days. The first-two-days people have 7 or 8 days to prepare over the holiday break. (Every other teacher doesn't give homework over holidays, what does she do? Assign a huge project.) Everybody after that has a minimum of 2 weeks because she's not going to be there on Thursday or Friday after the Tues/Weds presentations so the presentations pick up again the week after. Shouldn't she not start the presentations until she gets back so that there's not such a huge difference in preparation time? I don't even get to talk to her about my speechy thing or get any help or anything until the day before I have to do it, at which point it's more or less too late.
I don't know, I'm really just pissed about having to do the presentation over a passage that not only wasn't my first choice, wasn't even my 5th. I think that after my 3rd choice was taken or so, she should have given me priority seeing as how somehow the universe was conspiring against me. And the fact that I've got one week of vacation to do mine and the last people have 3 weeks including during class is tied for first for infuriation.
Anyway, that's my story. If anyone wants to read Sula and pick out every bit of symbolism/connection to real life/connection to the rest of the story/literary device in the bit where Shadrack's nutting out on pages 10-12, I'd love you forever. The library doesn't even have the book in for me yet. Grr.
