I am incredibly retarded when it comes to cooking, so I struggle to understand how it can be fun.

I don't try often because I eat when I'm hungry and I don't want to have to wait for stuff to cook. I'm passible, though. I don't think I could make a soufle or anything, but if you give me a recipe I should be okay. Though for some reason I have trouble sometimes getting water to boil. I blame it on the fact that the stove is right by the back door, which doesn't close well. Ergo, drafts keeping the pot cool.

In the summer it never used to shut properly, so you'd be sitting there doing your thing, when suddenly the door swings open and it's all like "AAARGH! *slams door*".

AAARGH! indeed. Que terrible. Ours this latest time just wouldn't close easily(it's a lot better now, probably because of the cold). You'd push it close and it wouldn't latch. You'd shove it harder. Nope. You had to like hip-check it to get the doorknob thing to actually click. Which, if you were going to the bathroom in the middle of the night (and possibly trying not to announce to the rest of the house that you were still up) was bad. Anytime, really, it was bad, as you'd do it and then get yelled at for pounding on the house.

she had to sit there on the phone for, like, half an hour, trying to explain to him how to type in the email address

XD Old people and their computer illiteracy. My aunt called from Vermont a few months ago because she couldn't figure out why she couldn't get in to her school (she's a teacher too) email account. I was having to tell her that you can most of the time check your email from anywhere. You've just got to find the right online linkage. I know more about teachers' email accounts than most teachers and it makes me sad. I'm always explaining things to my teachers too. Half the time they don't even know the ending on their school email because they never have to actually type any of them, as they've got an address book built in with all the staff sorted by school, grade, subject, etc. And it doesn't help that our technology department is crap. They're like "hit ctl-alt-delete. No? Reboot it. No? Sorry. We'll maybe have somebody that probably can't figure out anything more to do to fix it come by sometime in the next month." Last time this happened, the teacher was on the phone on the other side of the room and repeating the instructions for our little group around the computer (AKA: the whole class. There are only 6 of us in theater.) to do, but for every instruction, I was like "Yup. Tried that. [Technically type stuff about the tests and commands and whatever that I was doing that I don't remember because I don't remember what the problem was.]" Anyway. /story

Yay for summer birthdays!

Indeed. Though I always wanted it to snow on my birthday. And go ice skating. I was always more a fan of the cold than the nasty muggy hot it is here.

And mostly just BBQs and stuff.

Yeah. Problem is that for some of them, it was so hot that it was horrible. Because you'd plan whatever not knowing that it was going to be 40 degrees out on that day.

I am trying to convince mum to let me go to Adventure World or paintballing for my next birthday.

Those sound cool, though both pretty expensive, no?

So I am working through all your comments (and fics), but I've not had much time lately. I'll get through them eventually. (I've actually been forcing myself to not just reply to everything in my inbox so that I actually do some work. Though no work is currently getting done for reasons that are extremely infuriating.)
