Did you know that 39 people were still using tank respirators (like the iron lung) in the USA in 2004? I totally didn't. Had no idea that those were still used. /research for IB History of the Americas project.
Disease of the day: Ondine's Curse. Congenital malformation of the autonomic nervous system resulting in no respiratory action without conscious intervention. Named for the myth of Ondine, who cursed her cheating husband to stop breathing and die if he ever fell asleep.
