yikes! the drill actually dropped/fell off inside the mouth? good thing you don't have your sister's dentist! still, i can't believe your dentist never knew about your cavities!
you can always get novacaine to numb the area. you won't feel pain, only pressure. and maybe, just maybe... i know when i was a kid, every time they had to drill or pull out a tooth, they'd always put me under (i'm pretty sure it was laughing gas) and it was scented! so i'd always pick strawberry. :) do they have anything like that at your dentist? that would help you out a lot! i'm used to having big tools stuck in my mouth though... practically every tooth has a sealant on it! (yeah, i totally screwed up the spelling on that.)
all in all, i'm 100% positive that your dentist WILL NOT drop the drill in your mouth. even though you might be a little sore after (which you could always take medicine for!), i think you'll be juuuust fine :)
