Umm, evidently there's some fine on my public library record for something called "Kingdom Keepers" because it's missing disk number 4. And it's $15. I've never heard of that. Pretty sure I've never checked it out. The library people have been fucking up my account lately. For example. I returned a bunch of stuff. A while ago. A few days ago, it was still on my record as checked out and accumulating fines. WTF? I go back today, and some of it's gone from the record, but the fines that accumulated after I gave it back but before they checked it in are still there. So, um, thanks guys. Because of this crap, my account's past the fine limit and I can't renew these books that I've got out, which are now, as a result, accumulating more fines.

Thanks, guys. Not even cool. What happened to the old public library? The one I walked down to each day and started helping them shelve books in preschool? The one where bureaucratic crap was trumped by reading every time? It's gone. I don't like it.

Omg. I keep getting text messages from a video library in Bendigo reminding me of overdue rentals. Bendigo is like three hours away and I've never been there IN MY LIFE. Okay, not exactly the same thing, but still, it's weird how easy it is for them to get it wrong. And yeah, what happened to the days when you had little paper cards and little pockets in the backs of books and date stamps and stuff that COULDN'T get fucked up by a computer?!

Oh, jeeze. Does that mean that somebody is giving them your number as theirs, or do they actually believe that it's you?

Yeah. I'm a fan of computers in general, but not when they screw up. For example? I was writing a history paper and it died on me after I saved it. Now there's nothing. I've got to completely rewrite it tonight. No fun. Dumb computers. Why can't they just do what we want them to?

I'm guessing someone gave a fake number, which just happens to be mine, or the video clerk made a typo when enterting their number, and wound up with mine...it's nothing more than generic reminder texts, but it IS annoying because not many people text me so I get all excited and then it's nothing ;)

Ouch. I remember on my old computer, whenever I hit save it would half the time just close word. I learned to copy all my text before trying to save as a safe guard but a few times when I re-opened word, nothing would paste. GAH.

You think that's bad? One of our libraries sends out fines to a collections company and lowers your credit score if you don't return them. O_o Very obnoxious.

Gotcha. I was worried that it was besmirching your record or something, that the computer screwed up and put the video under your name instead of somebody else's (which the Blockbuster near me has done to a friend of mine before, but luckily she looked at her reciept right after she walked out of the store and realized that she didn't check one of the things out).

I remember on my old computer, whenever I hit save it would half the time just close word.

That's bizzare. Actually, last Friday I was working on another part of said history paper and on the school computer I was on, when I hit print it gave me a 'save as' dialogue box to save it as some kind of image file. Every time, no matter whether I clicked the print icon, the print command under the file toolbar thingie, print through the print preview screen, nada. Word also refuses to copy and paste from emails for me anymore. I don't know what's going on, but I'm not happy with Microsoft of late.

I learned to copy all my text before trying to save as a safe guard but a few times when I re-opened word, nothing would paste.

Ahh, I've had that happen many a time. *grumbles at Word*

Ours does too, actually, I think. They threaten to, at least, but you've got a while. There's like a $25 limit for fines, you're over that for more than a month or you have billed items (the latter being a rule they added without telling anyone, which is unfair, IMO) they charge you $10 more, you still don't pay for 3 mos or so they report you. I've gotten close to the limit, but never had it actually done (as far as I know). It's kinda nuts. Especially if it's not that much money. I had a $7 billed item on there a few months back and they charged me the $10 billed because you lost it fee (even though it was only billed for maybe a week), which ticked me off because I could have bought them a new copy of the book for less than that.
